A road less travelled can never be smooth…Thats what makes the challenge even more interesting as you get to chose the destination as well as the way you want to reach there.
I am so delighted to share a very interesting fact with you all today. Its been a little over a year now since Maruti certified the first batch of Unnati students as ready to drive for TAXSHE. And yes, we had hurdles, big ones, small ones, irritations, arguments. Today a year down the line I can say IT WAS WORTH IT.
I want to bring to you a live example of how a life has been impacted. In the pics attached, is this girl GAYATHRI, who joined our organisation around June 2015 as a SWEEPER. For a paltry sum of Rs 1500 per month, she was willing to come from 15 km away and sweep the office, swab it, clean the toilets. She soon saw what TAXSHE was doing, training women drivers and giving them a career. And jumped at the opportunity. Took the Maruti Driving Unnati course, and trained with us inhouse further for another 3 months. Then took up a job of a driver. She still faced a lot of reactions from clients, as being over cautious, slow, didn’t know the routes… But she surfaced through all that because she believed in the dream which was shown to her. Today, she drives various cars including an AUDI and HONDA ACCORD!!! Today, every car she is given to drive, is just another car for her, she has become so good at her skills. Today, she plans to buy her own cab, and earn a fixed net monthly income of Rs.42,000 (net of EMI, fuel, service costs) from Jan 2017. Today she drives about 20 children safely to school, every single day. And giggles and sings with them, becoming a child herself sometimes.
She is currently in the take off mode in life. Not only does she plan a take off from here, she is in turn an inspiration to all the other girls, who aspire to be where she is today.
Today, with her success, I feel like a parent whose child has possibly got a doctorate!!
THANK YOU all, the entire spectrum of our trainers, clients, the society, schools, corporates, parents and the little children we drive. It was your belief and confidence which allowed the women to survive stably in this male dominated career. It was a joint effort by each one of us, by all of us. I share this with all of you, so you can also beam in pride for shaping someone’s life and motivate more people around you to do the same. Just soak in the pride of what you all have contributed to….
