Yes, this Roo cannot read English, in fact can barely read any language at all. But she has the passion and the power to follow her gut!!
Vijaya, a single mom of 2, educated till primary class, has been working with us over the past few months now. She also works as an office cleaner since the past 15 years, and took up driving as her pride, because she was tired of being pulled down in life being called an “illiterate”. Life hasn’t been kind to her, but she never forgets to smile this flashy million dollar smile!
So Vijaya drives quite a few kids to school these days. And everyday chattering with all the kids made her miss dropping her own kids to school. She had started making an additional income from her driving job here, so she took the leap and BOUGHT HER OWN CAR!! All because she felt she needed her kids to be proud of their mom!
Today Vijaya drives her own kids to work, then drives her car to her office cleaning job, Then drives more kids to their schools and back. And now she wants to be a trainer.
I am so humbled by this girl who doesn’t know the word “give up”. I am so humbled by her dreams and her aspirations. I feel so proud that I stood up and started Taxshe, which gave her the wind below her wings. And this didn’t happen alone, there were so many people behind Vijaya’s driving. Taxshe gave her opportunity, Maruti gave her the training, clients who encouraged her, her own family who supported her thoroughly. Today, yes, the effort was hers, the dream was hers. But behind her were a million small moments and lots of people who helped cement her life and her future. What more achievement can one feel, more than contributing such critical moments in people’s lives.
Thank you Vijaya for inspiring me and a whole lot of other women in times to come! Soon I will train you in reading too so you can read this blog dedicated to you, I promise!
